Changing Lives Through Community Support

Every year, our community unites to strengthen Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and Mission Hope Cancer Center, ensuring that patients receive local care that reaches beyond hospital walls. Whether volunteering, donating, or sharing our message, your support fosters a deeper type of healing—one that transcends medical treatment and nurtures the mind, body, and spirit.

Thanks to generous donations, patients receive more than oncology and infusion services at Mission Hope Cancer Center - Arroyo Grande. Patients have access to comprehensive cancer care services, including the support of a dedicated nurse navigator, a registered dietitian, and a counselor.  Donors also help fund transportation to treatment, ensuring no one misses a vital appointment, and support an appearance center where patients can renew their self-confidence.  Once treatments are complete, patients can participate in an on-site exercise rehabilitation program to help regain strength and mobility. Together, these resources create a compassionate, accessible, patient-centered environment.

Among those who have experienced our transformative care are local residents Carolyn and Dr. Peter Thom, whose story demonstrates the power of a compassionate community. Carolyn has bravely confronted cancer three times, while Peter was diagnosed during his medical career as a cardiologist. Throughout their journeys, they have encountered expert local treatment and care that also honored their personal dignity and emotional health. According to Carolyn, who has taken advantage of several Mission Hope programs, “I’ve received help with things like makeup, hair, and head coverings. Just making myself look better so I can feel better—that’s been really helpful.” Dr. Thom adds, “I’m especially pleased that she’s going through the rehabilitation program – that she’s trying to maintain her strength. It’s one of the things you lose when you are ill, and that plays a role in how well you recover.” Their gratitude underscores how meaningful these services can be in restoring hope and resilience.

It is thanks to the generosity of our community that Mission Hope Cancer Center is able to offer these individualized treatments and supportive programs. However, there is still more we can do.  Your donations directly expand our capacity to serve every patient who walks through our doors, making access to vital healthcare services and state-of-the-art equipment within reach of anyone who lives in our community.
